RIO MAR, P.R. - The No. 30 Purdue men's golf team shot a one-over 279 on Sunday to finish the opening day of the Puerto Rico Classic in a tie for seventh place.
Georgia Tech finished the day in first place after shooting 278 (-10).
The Boilermakers were led by senior Erich Johnston, who carded the team's lone red number of the day with a one-under 71. His performance left him in a tie for 15th after 18 holes of play.
Juniors Tyler Duncan and William Sjaichudin both signed their cards at even-par 72 to wrap up Sunday's play with a share of 28th, while freshman Adam Schenk shot a first-round 74 (+2) to head into the clubhouse in a tie for 42nd.
Senior Nakarintra Ratanakul rounded out the Boilers' lineup in a tie for 67th with a five-over 77 on Sunday.
The Puerto Rico Classic will resume with another 18 holes on Monday before concluding with a final round on Tuesday.
