SAN MARCOS, Texas - A single run in the opening stanza was all the Boilermaker softball team needed to down the host Texas State Bobcats at the CenturyLink Classic Saturday morning.

Purdue managed a run on four hits in the contest, including two by junior Molly Garst. The Boilermakers allowed six hits in the contest, but issued their second shutout of the year.

Senior Suzie Rzegocki (3-1) struck out three batters in the complete game victory. Anne Marie Taylor (1-1) was saddled with the loss for Texas State.

The Bobcats put two runners on to no avail in the opening stanza as the designated visiting team. A walk and a single accounted for the runners, but a sacrifice, a runner caught trying to steal home and a strikeout brought the Boilermakers to the plate.

Purdue took just two batters to break onto the scoreboard. Garst led off with a triple to right center, then scooted home on a sacrifice fly to center by freshman Andie Varsho.

A double play nullified a pair of Bobcat hits in the second. Third baseman Tori Chiodo scooped up a grounder, tagged third and lasered a throw over to first to wrap up the inning.

Texas State threatened in the sixth, loading the bases with one out on a pair of singles and a walk. A liner to second baseman Ashley Courtney wound up end a double play to cap the inning.

Frehsman Lindsey Rains led off the Purdue half of the sixth with a single that ricocheted off of the pitcher's leg. The play would mark Taylor's last of the game as Chandler Hall took over in the circle. Garst joined Rains with a bunt single, but the pair was left stranded by a trio of strikeouts.

The Bobcats went down in order to wrap up the game. A pair of grounders to third base and a fly ball to left accounted for the putouts.

Purdue (3-2) returns to action around 6 p.m. ET when it faces Iowa State.
