WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The No. 50 Purdue women's tennis team blanked Illinois State 7-0 on Sunday at the Schwartz Tennis Center.
The Boilermakers are undefeated in dual-match doubles and continued this run, cleaning out the Red Birds 3-0. At No. 1 doubles, nationally ranked No. 13 pair, junior Jenny Rabot and freshman Mara Schmidt, were the first to claim a win for Purdue, clipping Aniko Kiss and Phyllis Tigges, 8-2.
Clinching the doubles point at No. 3 was 68th-ranked Bhavani Tirumurti and Imogen Golder over Hannah Esker and Heather Nisbet 8-3. Finishing it out at the 2nd spot was junior Anna Dushkina and sophomore Gisella Pere defeating Arianne Maack and Carolina Abello also by 8-3.
The Boilermakers also swept the singles round. Pere pulled a doubles bagel over Gabby Phillips 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6. Rebounding with a strong victory on the 2nd-court was freshman Schmidt, beating Phyllis Tigges 6-1, 6-1. In the top singles slot to decide to match, Rabot defated Kiss 6-1, 6-1 while senior Tirumurti cut off Maack 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
On the 5th court, sophomore Golder claimed the first set 6-2 and saw a small set-back in the second, but came out on top 6-2, 6-4. Putting a cap on the day was Dushkina at No. 4 singles, taking the first set 6-1. When Abello pushed back in the second set, the junior Boilermaker went to work to close it out 6-1, 6-4.
"I was pleased with the way we played and competed this weekend," said head coach Laura Glitz. "Our doubles was especially good; something that is going to be very important as we start playing tougher competition. I felt like our singles improved a lot from the last weekend, but each player needs to work on a few specific things so we can reach our goals this year."
The Old Gold and Black travel to Western Michigan in Kalamazoo, Mich. on Friday for a 1:00 p.m. ET dual at the Sorenson Courts.
