ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Purdue Boilermakers (13-7, 4-4) scored just 20 points in the second half to lose at Michigan, 57-45.
The score was knotted at 25-25 at the end of the first half. It was a back-and-forth period that saw five ties and three lead changes. Purdue led by six points early, 9-3, but it would prove to be the Boilermakers' largest lead of the game.
Michigan started the second half with seven-straight points by Sam Arnold, a three-pointer and two layups, and the Boilermakers didn't score until Brittany Rayburn hit one of two free throws with 15:26 to play. Rayburn finished with a team-high 10 points.
Three of the Boilermakers' four post players encountered foul trouble in the first half, with Alex Guyton, Sam Ostarello and Chelsea Jones all picking up two fouls before the break. And only Ostarello ever got going in the second half, pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds and contributing eight points.
Drey Mingo scored nine points and had eight rebounds. She was instrumental in a late second-half push where she scored seven points, including a three-pointer, one of the two Purdue managed on the day.
Purdue shot 47.8 percent from the field in the first half, but the Wolverines clamped down defensively in the second half and the Boilermakers hit just 8 of 27 shots for 29.6 percent for the half and 38.0 percent for the game.
Michigan was led by Sam Arnold's 13 points. Carmen Reynolds and Rachel Sheffer each scored 11 points for the Wolverines.
Purdue will return to Mackey Arena on Thursday to face non-conference opponent, SIU-Edwardsville at 7 p.m. ET.
