, - The Boilermakers hosted their first dual-match of the spring slate on Saturday, facing the Cincinnati Bearcats at the , and had no trouble with them, taking the win at 6-1.
The No. 13 doubles pair in the nation, junior Jenny Rabot and freshman Mara Schmidt, cruised past Ksenia Slynka and Jasmine Lee 8-3 on the top court. In the second doubles spot, sophomore Gisella Pere and junior Anna Dushkina were the first to take victory over Caitlin O'Gara and Lindsey Lonergan 8-0. The ITA 68th-ranked doubles pair of Bhavani Tirumurti and Imogen Golder clinched the point with a win over Safiyya Ismail and Ashley Witte 8-1.
"I thought our doubles play was very good today. We have been working on being more aggressive in doubles and I believe we accomplished that goal," said head coach Laura Glitz.
Tirumurti was the first to finish her singles bout against Witte 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 while, in the fifth spot, Pere closed quickly at 6-1, 6-3 over Ismail. To clinch the match for Purdue, Dushkina eased past O'Gara 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. Following close behind were Golder and Rabot. Golder defeated Elise Woulfe 6-4, 6-1, while Rabot routed Ksenia Slynko 6-2, 6-3.
"Overall, for our first match of the season, I was pleased with our play," Glitz said. "We need to build on this match and get better as a team."
