ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Andrew Starr and Ben Wachtel posted new season top times while winning events but Purdue dropped a dual meet against Michigan Sunday evening at Canham Natatorium.
The No. 13 Wolverines topped the No. 21 Boilermakers, 134.5-108.5. Both teams' top competitors were in Dallas Friday and Saturday competing in the Classic at SMU.
Starr swept the distance freestyle events, winning the 500 (4:31.46) and 1000 (9:16.55). His time in the 1000 free was a season best Purdue. Wachtel won the 200 free (1:39.22) with a new season-best time.
David Boudia was also a two-time winner, sweeping with the 1- and 3-meter diving events with scores of 397.72 and 445.79, respectively.
Albert Miller capped a successful weekend for the senior with a victory in the 200 breast.
"It was a final score of 134.5-108.5; it takes 122 to win," Purdue head coach Dan Ross said. "We literally came together as a team after a long weekend of travel and racing and I thought had our best team effort yet. We'll take tomorrow off and then start preparing for the rest of our Big Ten slate."
The Purdue divers return to action Friday against Indiana while the rest of the team takes the weekend off before resuming competition the weekend of Jan. 28-29 at the Big Ten Quad at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center.
