WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team finished out its home tournament, Purdue Invitational, with a final group of singles matches against Louisville on Sunday.
The Boilermakers played six singles against University of Louisville to round out a hidden dual match with the Cardinal team.
First to claim victory was Bhavani Tirumurti (Chennai, India) at No. 3 singles. The senior took the first set 6-2 from Kaysara Mandry and blanked Mandry in the second 6-0.
Next, junior Anna Dushkina retired Amelia Harris 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 while sophomore Gisella Pere defeated Gabi Duncan 6-0, 6-2 in the fifth spot.
Freshman Mara Schmidt dropped her first set to Mandy Brown 2-6, but the Boilermaker rallied to claim the next two, 6-2, 6-0.
At No. 6 singles, Imogen Golder (Auckland, New Zealand) took her first set from Stefanie Villajuan 6-1, but fell in the second 3-6. The Purdue sophomore claimed set and match in the third 6-2.
The Purdue Invitational finishes out the fall schedule for the Old Gold and Black team. The spring 2011 slate begins in January when the Boilermaker team appears at the Hilton Garden Inn Eagle Classic on Jan. 15-17 in Fort Myers, Fla.
