Boilermakers Cruise Past Indianapolis, 99-43

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Boilermakers used suffocating defense, forcing the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds into 24 turnovers, en route to a 99-43 win in the final tune up before the regular season. The win extended Purdue's exhibition winning streak to 32 games and the 99 points scored was the most in an exhibition game since 2000.

Junior guard Brittany Rayburn led the Boilermakers with 22 points on 7 of 11 shooting from the field. The Attica, Ind., native got off to a blistering start offensively, knocking down her first four shots, including two three-pointers. She led all scorers in both halves, compiling 17 points in the first period and 22 for the game.

Sophomore KK Houser finished with 21 points for the Boilermakers, including nine straight over a 53-second span in the second half. Redshirt junior Antionette Howard was the third Boilermaker to reach double-figure scoring, with 15 points.

Purdue did not allow a Greyhound player to reach double-digits. Katie Lyons and Samantha Meissel scored eight points each. Meissel, the 2010 GLVC Player of the Year, averaged 19.2 ppg last season.

Early on, it was a back and forth game. The Greyhounds tied the game at 22 with 9:46 remaining in the first half, but over the next seven minutes, they were held without a field goal while Purdue went on to a 23-1 run to take command of the game. The Boilermakers forced the Greyhounds into six turnovers during that span.

Purdue used its size to outrebound the Greyhounds 45-27, including 17 on teh offensive end. Chantel Poston led the way for Purdue hauling in a game-high eight rebounds. Sophomore Sam Ostarello and Howard each pulled down six boards. Freshman guard Courtney Moses had nine points on 4 of 9 shooting, tied for team high with five assists, all without committing a turnover.

The Boilermakers shot a scorching 56.1 percent from the field for the game, making good on 37 of 66 attempts. They also found success at the free throw line, hitting 20 of 29 attempts for 69.0 percent. Indianapolis was held to a 28.6 percent from the field on 16 of 56 shooting. The Greyhounds struggled beyond the arc, knocking down only seven of their 30 attempts for a 23.3 percent.

The Boilermakers return to action when they begin their regular season against Austin Peay on Friday at 5 p.m. ET in Mackey Arena.
