ORLANDO, Fla. - The Purdue women's tennis team began dual-match spring preparation at the University of Central Florida Invitational on Friday.
The Boilermakers played team-style doubles and singles matches against the Missouri Tigers and the host team, Central Florida Knights. Purdue squared off against Missouri to start the day and claimed two of the three doubles matches played. At No. 1 doubles junior Jenny Rabot and freshman Mara Schmidt routed Kaitlyn Ritchie and Mallory Weber 8-5, while sophomore Imogen Golder and senior Bhavani Tirumurti defeated Rachel Stuhlmann and Annemijn Koenen by the same tally at No. 3 doubles.
After a ten minute break, the Old Gold and Black dueled Central Florida in seven singles matches. Schmidt (Bradenton, Fla.) took first Purdue victory at No. 3 singles over Courtney Griffith in three sets 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4) extending her win streak to 3 matches. Also claiming a win, in her fall premiere, was sophomore Gisella Pere 6-3, 6-3 over Josephine Haraldson at No. 6 singles.
No. 82 Rabot (Bishop's Stortford, England) was narrowly beaten by Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason ranked player No. 106 Jenny Frisell 6-7, 6-4, 6-1 in the first singles spot.
Purdue holds a 4-3 all-time series record over Missouri while the Boilermakers have only ever faced Central Florida and Arkansas once.
