TULSA, Okla. - Sophomore Krisztian Krocsko made his way through the first round of qualifying at the D'Novo ITA All-American Championships on Monday. The Virginia Commonwealth transfer eliminated Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason ranked No. 109 competitor Corrado Degl'Incerti Tocci of Virginia Tech 6-4, 0-6, 6-1.
"Krisztian has played against tough opponents throughout this tournament and has really proven himself to be a strong competitor by raising his game in each round," head coach Pawel Gajdzik said, "Especially over the last two days, he has played very mature tennis. If he continues to keep this level of play, I believe he can make some very exciting things happen over the next several days."
The Boilermaker's next challenge is ITA ranked No. 59 and 14th-seeded qualifying opponent Ryan Thacher of Standford who defeated Ohio State's Balzas Novak 7-5, 6-1 in the first round. While Thacher is touted 59th in preseason singles, he also makes up half of the second best doubles team in the nation along with Cardinal teammate Bradley Klahn.
Tuesday's tilts also include Purdue freshmen Aaron Dujovne and Mark Kovacs who appear in the qualifying doubles draw against Georgia foes Sadio Doumbia and Wil Spencer.
Upon completion, the qualifying draws feed into the 64-player and 32-doubles team main draws, out of which overall champions will be crowned. A consolation draw for qualifying singles has also been released and begins Tuesday.
