Boilermaker's Run At Tournament Ends

Oct. 5, 2010

TULSA, Okla. - The four-match run that sophomore Krisztian Krocsko constructed at the D'Novo ITA All-American Championships came to an end on Tuesday.

The Boilermaker challenged Stanford Cardinal and Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason ranked No. 59 player Ryan Thacher in the second round of qualifying. Krocsko came out strong in the first set but fell short 6-4 to the draws's 14th-seed. Krocsko held tough in the second forcing Thacher to serve for the match at 6-5. The Stanford player did not crack under pressure, eliminating Krocsko 6-4, 7-5.

After a bye in the first round of pre-qualifying, Krocsko survived three days and four matches of difficult competition during his impressive run. The Budapest, Hungary native's victims in the pre-qualifying draw included Tim Schulz van Endert (San Diego State) 6-4, 6-3, Jordan Bridge (Cal Poly) 6-2, 6-4, and (3) Vasko Mladenov (Texas) 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. The qualifying draw held Krocsko's first ranked opponent No. 109 Corrado Degl'Incerti Tocci (Virginia Tech) who the Boilermaker beat 6-4, 0-6, 6-1.

Also competing for the Old Gold and Black on the day was doubles duo Aaron Dujovne and Mark Kovacs. The freshman pair faced Georgia's Sadio Doumbia and Wil Spencer in the qualifying doubles draw. The teams quickly traded breaks to start the match. Each held serve until the Bulldogs pulled ahead and did not let go, defeating the Boilermakers 8-5.

"This was a great tournament for our guys," said head coach Pawel Gajdzik. "They competed well against players from top programs in the nation. Our players are motivated to return home and work hard. Krisztian had a good run and Mark also performed well. The wins they collected at this tournament will pay off in the future. We are looking forward to switching gears and preparing for the indoor season which begins in two weeks when we travel to Kentucky [for ITA Regional Tournament]."
