NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Members of the Purdue women's tennis team played their first day of the June Stewart Invitational on Friday in Nashville, Tenn.
Kay Kay Magi, Remi Martin and Gisella Pere took on competitors from Vanderbilt, Middle Tennessee State, Lipscomb, Austin-Peay, Memphis, Murray State and Belmont.
In her fall season premiere, junior Magi claimed singles and doubles victory at this regional showcase. The Hamilton, Ontario native got the first set from Laura Stack of Belmont at a close 7-5. In the second set, Magi rolled to take the match 7-5, 6-1. The Boilermaker meets Vanderbilt's Megan Gornet in the Peterson draw semifinal on Saturday.
Magi paired with Andrea Arques-Garcia of Memphis in doubles to defeat Lindsay Bennett and Spenser-Anne Edwards (Belmont) 8-2.
The event entails five 8-player singles draws, a 16-player doubles draw and an additional group of round robin doubles matches.
