EVANSTON, Ill. - Jan-Frans Engelbrecht battled his way through his singles draw at the Wildcat Fall Invitational to land himself a spot in the consolation singles final on Sunday.
The Boilermaker junior faced Marquette's Jonathan Schwerin for the title and fell 6-3, 6-1.
The Cape Town, South Africa, native defeated other Marquette players Robin Ravel and Thibault Troude to get to the finals.
Engelbrecht has reached at least the semifinals in both tournaments he has played in this fall season; he netted a semifinal berth at the Purdue Fall Invitational where he was eliminated by the eventual draw champion.
The event entailed two singles draws (A & B) of 16 players each along with a doubles draw of the same number. All matches were played indoors.
The entire Purdue men's tennis roster returns to action next weekend at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Indoor Championship in Lexington, Ky. (Oct. 21-25).
