COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 28 Purdue men's golf team posted a total of 295 (+15) on Tuesday to secure a seventh-place finish at the inaugural Jack Nicklaus Invitational at Scioto Country Club.
The Boilermakers finished the event with a team score of 891 (+51) to finish three strokes ahead of No. 13 Ohio State and nine strokes in front of No. 37 Baylor.
Freshman Adam Schenk fired Purdue's best individual round of the tournament on Tuesday, an even-par 70 that matched his third-best round of the season. The Vincennes, Ind., native wrapped up the fall finale with a score of 220 (+10), moving 10 spots up the leader board on Tuesday to finish in 15th place.
Senior Erich Johnston carded a final-round 75 (+5) to finish the event in a 26th-place tie with a total of 224 (+14), while junior Tyler Duncan shot 76 (+6) on Tuesday to take a share of 31st with a score of 225 (+15). Senior David Gersztein saved his best round of the tournament for the final day, shooting 74 (+4) to move into a 39th-place tie with a mark of 229 (+19).
Freshman Sam Fu capped Purdue's lineup with a final-round 77 (+7) and a 54-hole total of 231 (+21), good for a tie for 43rd place.
With the fall season in the books, the Boilermakers will return to action on Feb. 11 and 12, 2011, for the Big Ten Match Play Championship in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Purdue claimed runner-up honors at the 2010 edition of the championship after knocking off Penn State in the opener, top-seeded Illinois in the second round and Minnesota in the semifinals.
