OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. - The Purdue men's golf team wrapped up its trip to historic Olympia Fields Country Club on Sunday with a team score of 294 (+14) to tie for ninth place at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational.
The Boilermakers concluded the event with a total of 870 (+30) to share ninth place in the elite 15-team field with second-ranked Stanford. On the strength of a second-round surge on Saturday that moved it four spots up the leader board, Purdue bested ranked teams Arizona State, California, Florida State and Northwestern on the weekend.
Freshman Adam Schenk finished the weekend with the Boilers' best score, posting a six-over 216 after shooting 75 (+5) on Sunday. Schenk's effort was good for a share of 24th place.
Purdue's best performance of the third round came from senior Nakarintra Ratanakul, who came up with a birdie on the 17th to finish with a 72 (+2). Ratanakul wrapped up the tournament in a tie for 30th place with a total of 217 (+7).
Sophomore Henry Plager recovered from a rough start to his third round to sign his card with a four-over 74, moving him into a tie for 39th with a mark of 220 (+10). Junior Tyler Duncan finished in a tie for 41st with a score of 221 (+11) after shooting 75 (+5) on Sunday, while senior Erich Johnston carded a third-round 73 (+3) to tie for 45th with a total of 222 (+12).
Purdue will continue it's busy fall schedule next weekend when it travels to Glencoe, Ill., for Northwestern's Windon Memorial Classic.
