WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's tennis team finished out the last day of the Purdue Fall Invitational as champions. Doubles duo of freshmen Aaron Dujovne and Mark Kovacs competed against their teammates Krisztian Krocsko and Szymon Tatarczyk in the flight A doubles main draw final.
Although Dujovne and Kovacs beat their opponents (9-8 (7-5)), the Boilermaker team as a whole were the real winners with a strong showing all around. "This was a great tournament and an excellent opportunity for the community of West Lafayette to watch some high quality college tennis," said head coach Pawel Gajdzik, "This tournament was the first opportunity for our team to get out and compete this fall. We have learned a lot about our young players and know what direction we have to take in practice to get better. We are looking forward to a good week of practice before our trip to Texas."
The other Boilermaker still alive in the final day of competition was Jan-Frans Engelbrecht. The Purdue junior faced tough opponent Mike Nott of Arkansas in the semifinals of the flight C main draw. Englebrecht had a tough time in the first set, falling 6-2. He rallied in the second to force the tiebreaker, but was defeated 6-2, 7-6 (9-7). Nott would go on to win the draw.
