Women's Tennis Opens Fall at Duke Fab Four Invite

CARY, N.C. - Four members of the Purdue women's tennis team completed their first day of fall competition at the Duke Fab Four Invite in Cary, N.C. on Friday.

Junior Anna Dushkina, freshman Mara Schmidt, junior Jenny Rabot, and senior Bhavani Tirumuti faced challenging opposition on all courts. Schmidt (Bradenton, Fla) took on North Carolina's Jocelyn Ffriend in a tightly-contested debut for the newcomer. The Boilermaker kept it close in the first set, falling 7-6 (7-4), and rallied in the second, but fell 7-5. Schmidt paired with Rabot (Bishop's Stortford, England) to defeat Duke's Elizabeth Plotkin and Nadine Fahoum 8-5. The duo pushed onto a semifinal matchup against Antonia Foehse and Mary Anne Macfarlane of Alabama, but were taken out 8-2. Schmidt and Rabot will compete for third place in the Section B flight against Rachel White and Allison Falkin of Illinois on Saturday.
