Men's Golf Battles On Day One At Olympia Fields

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. - The Purdue men's golf team wrapped up the opening day of the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational in 13th place, but remains in the hunt at Olympia Fields Country Club as no team in the elite field distanced itself on Friday.

The Boilermakers recorded a first-round total of 291 (+11) on the par-70 venue. Only 11 strokes separated the top of the field from the bottom after 18 holes of play, and Purdue was just five strokes away from a top-five position after Friday's action.

Freshman Adam Schenk carded a one-over 71 to pace the Boilermakers in the opening round, mixing in two birdies against just three bogeys. His first-round effort was good for a share of 19th place.

Senior Nakarintra Ratanakul tallied 72 (+2) on Friday to finish the opening day in a tie for 34th, while junior Tyler Duncan and sophomore Henry Plager both shot 74 (+4) to hit the clubhouse deadlocked in 40th place. Senior Erich Johnston rounded out Purdue's lineup in a tie for 65th with a first-round 78 (+8).

Second-round action from Olympia Fields will begin at 9 a.m. ET on Saturday, with the Boilermakers slated for tee times beginning at 9:40 a.m. ET. Live scoring will be available at golfstat.com.
