WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Freshman Adam Schenk posted a total of 143 (-1) on Saturday to claim the individual medal and lead the Purdue men's golf team to victory at the Purdue/Midwest Shootout at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.

The Boilermakers carded rounds of 297 and 291 for a total of 588 (+12) to win the one-day event by 15 strokes over runner-up Miami (Ohio). The victory is the second in as many tournaments for Purdue, which took first at the Turning Stone Intercollegiate in Verona, N.Y., over Labor Day weekend.

After playing the first round at level par, Schenk tallied a one-under 71 in the afternoon circuit to finish the day two strokes clear of the field. The individual medal was the first of the Vincennes, Ind., native's career, as he finished 17th on the season's opening weekend.

Senior Nakarintra Ratanakul fired a second-round 69 (-3) on Saturday - his second round in the 60s this season - to move into a tie for third with a score of 146 (+2), while junior Tyler Duncan used a 71 (-1) in the opening round to place fifth with a mark of 147 (+3). Freshman Sam Fu earned a share of 12th place with a total of 152 (+8), and junior William Sjaichudin tied for 17th with a tally of 157 (+13).

Saturday was also a productive day for a quintet of Boilermakers playing as individuals, led by a second-place showing from senior Erich Johnston. The Fort Wayne, Ind., native rode an even-par 72 in the second round to a two-round score of 145 (+1).

Senior David Gersztein finished sixth with a mark of 148 (+4), sophomore Henry Plager tied for the eighth position with a score of 150 (+6), and junior Scott Busch and freshman Edward Peters tied for 17th with scores of 157 (+13).

Purdue will return to action this weekend when it makes its annual trip to Olympia Fields, Ill., for the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational.
