Men's Golf Finishes Boilermaker Invitational In Third Place

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Despite battling adverse weather conditions, the Purdue men's golf team moved two spots up the leader board on Sunday to take third place at the rain-soaked Boilermaker Invitational at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.

The Boilers finished the suspended second round with a 289 (+1) and carded an 11-over 299 in the third round to wrap up the weekend with a total of 880 (+16) to finish a stroke ahead of rival Indiana.

Junior Erich Johnston finished with rounds of 72 (E) and 73 (+1) to lead Purdue with an even-par total of 216, good for a share of fourth place. The effort marked his first top-five effort of the season.

After posting a 72 (E) in the second round, sophomore William Sjaichudin recorded a third-round 77 (+5) to tie for 25th with a score of 224 (+8), while classmate Tyler Duncan concluded the event with a tally of 225 (+9) to earn a share of 29th place.

Junior David Gersztein joined Duncan in 29th place with a total of 225 after firing a career-best round of 71 on Sunday afternoon, and junior Nakarintra Ratanakul finished in a 36th-place tie with a score of 226 (+10).

Freshman Henry Plager paced the Boilermakers' individual trio with a five-over 221 to finish in sole possession of 17th place, while junior Maximo Kopp tied for 29th with a score of 225 (+9) and sophomore Scott Busch shot 235 (+19) to place 63rd.

Purdue will open postseason play this weekend when it heads to Minnesota for the Big Ten Championships. Live scoring will be available at golfstat.com.
