WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Sophomore Tyler Duncan and junior Erich Johnston both posted red numbers on Saturday to pace the Purdue men's golf team to a fifth-place standing after one complete round of the Boilermaker Invitational at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.
Play was suspended in the second round due to heavy rain in the West Lafayette area. The tournament will resume at approximately 8:30 a.m. ET on Sunday with the completion of the second round and the full third round.
Led by a three-under 69 from Duncan and Johnston's one-under 71, the Boilermakers posted a team total of 292 (+4) in Saturday's first round.
Duncan's effort equaled his second-best 18-hole score of fourth under-par round of the season, while Johnston posted a red number for the sixth time this season. Duncan finished the day in a tie for third and Johnston entered the clubhouse in a tie for seventh.
Sophomore William Sjaichudin carded a three-over 75 to finish the first round in a tie for 38th, while juniors Nakarintra Ratanakul and David Gersztein shot 77 and 80, respectively, to tie for 49th and 64th after the opening round.
Freshman Henry Plager led a trio of Purdue players competing as individuals on Saturday, firing an even-par 72 to mark a career best and earn share of 15th place after 18 holes. Junior Maximo Kopp shot 74 (+2) and sophomore Scott Busch recorded a 77 (+5) to wrap up the day in ties for 29th and 49th, respectively.
