Final Stats

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Michigan (18-11, 4-2) took control of a back-and-forth contest with seven runs on six hits in the bottom of the fourth to earn a three-game Big Ten series victory over Purdue (15-14, 2-4) with a 9-4 win in the rubber game at Fisher Stadium on Sunday.

Trailing 2-1 after three and half innings, the Wolverines sent 11 hitters to the plate in the fourth and came up with three singles, two doubles and a triple to take charge of the game. UM's Ryan LaMarre, who finished the contest 3 fox 4 with two doubles, a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored, opened the frame with a triple off the top of the left field wall and added a three-run double down the right field line to cap inning off with a 8-2 lead in UM's favor.

Purdue plated single runs in the seventh and eighth, but Michigan answered back with a single run in the bottom of the seventh and cruised through a scoreless ninth for the series-clinching win.

Michigan starter Brandon Sinnery (3-0) picked up his third win of the season after limiting Purdue to two runs on five hits over six innings of work. He struck out three and walked three.

Reliever Kolby Woods tossed three effective innings for his first save of the season.

Purdue's Matt Morgan (2-1), who went 5-0 in Big Ten rubber games in 2009, was charged with his first loss of the year after allowing seven runs on seven hits in 3 1/3

The Wolverines opened the scoring with a two-out double down the left field line by LaMarre followed by a solid single by Chris Burset to jump out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

The Boilers tied the game in the top of the third on a two-out base-loaded base hit through the right side of the infield by freshman Kevin Plawecki to score classmate Angelo Cianfrocco who had singled to lead off the inning.

Purdue took advantage of two errors on the same play to take an ill-fated 2-1 lead in the fourth.

Madia opened the inning with a leadoff walk and was followed by a potential double play grounder off the bat of Cameron Perkins, but Wolverine second baseman Anthony Toth booted the ball and shortstop Derek Dennis threw an attempt to get Perkins out at first past Mike Dufek to place runners on second and third.

Cianfrocco made Michigan pay for the miscues with an RBI single to right to put Purdue up one, but the Wolverines responded with the big home half of the frame to take the lead for good.

The Boilermakers will return to nonconference action when they host Ball State for a single game at 4 p.m. at Lambert Field on Tuesday and head to Illinois State on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tilt with the Redbirds.
