ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Purdue baseball team spotted Michigan five runs in the first two innings and couldn't make up the difference in a 6-4 loss to the Wolverines at Fisher Stadium on Saturday. The UM win spilt the three-game series at one win each with the rubber game on Sunday set to determine the victor.

Michigan plated a single run in the bottom of the first on a run-scoring ground out and tacked on four runs on four hits in the second to jump out to the 5-0 lead.

The Boilermakers got RBI base hits from Brad Schreiber and Drew Madia in the top of the fourth for a pair of runs, and answered a Michigan score in the bottom of the fourth with two more runs in the top of the seventh to make it a two-run ball game and force UM starter Bobby Brosnahan from the game.

The Wolverines called on closer Tyler Burgoon out of the bullpen and the right-hander quieted the Purdue bats and come-from-behind bid to the tune of one hit to go along with three strikeouts over the final 2 1/3 shutout innings to seal the victory and nail down his fourth save.

Brosnahan (4-2) picked up his fourth win of the season over 6 1/3 innings. The UM southpaw allowed four runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and two walks.

Purdue starter Blake Mascarello (1-3) struggled to find the strike zone with his break ball and was charged with the loss after allowing four runs on three hits in 1 1/3 innings. He struck out one and walked two.

Reliever Drew Wurdack gave the Purdue offense time to rally with solid effort out of the pen. Entering for Kevin Cahill in the third, the senior right-hander allowed just one run on three hits over the final five innings. He struck out three and walked one.

Offensively, Purdue and Michigan finished with eight hits apiece. Eric Charles and Cameron Perkins collected two hits each for Purdue, while UM's Ryan LeMarre led the way in victory by going 3 for 5 with a double, an RBI and run scored.

The Boilers and Wolverines will meet up for the third and final time in the regular season on Sunday at noon. Right-hander Matt Morgan, Purdue's rubber game ace, is slated to make the start on the mound. The contest can be seen live on the Big Ten Network.
