COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Purdue men's swimming and diving team placed two in the 1-meter final during Friday's afternoon session that kicked off the NCAA Championships inside the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
Sophomore David Boudia, who was last year's NCAA runner up in the 1-meter, grabbed the first qualifying position, and junior David Colturi, who won the event at this year's Big Ten Championships and NCAA Zone C Diving Championships, earned the third-highest preliminary placing. Boudia scored 442.25 points throughout his six-dive list to top the field of 35 divers. Colturi, who has earned honorable mention All-America honors at two straight NCAA Championships, is set for the highest NCAA finish of his career in the 1-meter after scoring 393.60.
Senior Kyle Mitrione just missed scoring in the event as he finished 17th with 344.90 points, only 1.7 points away from the top 16. Junior Danny Cox scored 313.85 to log the 25th-best score in the event, while classmate J.P. Perez, making his NCAA Championships debut, posted the 27th-highest score of 305.40.
Friday evening's session, which features finals in six events, begins at 7 p.m. ET. The 1-meter is the fifth event on the program and slated to begin at approximately 8 p.m. Live results can be found at purduesports.com.
