Women's 3-Meter Results | Men's 1-Meter Results
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's and women's swimming and diving teams each added one more participant to their respective NCAA Championships on Saturday inside the Boilermaker Aquatic Center during day two of the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships.
"We had another great day," head diving coach Adam Soldati said. "We still have a lot of work to do tomorrow to get a few more people into the NCAA meet."
Junior David Colturi became the third Boilermaker to clinch an entry in the NCAA Championships on the men's side, while sophomore Casey Matthews punched the second Purdue ticket on the women's side.
Colturi, the defending Big Ten champion in the 1-meter and a two-time honorable mention All-American in the event, bettered the field of 34 divers with his score of 762.30 points. Matthews finished second in the 3-meter with her score of 702.75 to earn a return trip to the national championship meet after diving to All-America status as a freshman.Sophomore David Boudia, one day after breaking the facility and school records in the 3-meter, finished second in the 1-meter by totaling 746.30 points between his two lists. Senior Kyle Mitrione scored 670.20 points to take sixth off the lowest springboard, and junior Danny Cox placed seventh with his 668.90 total. Fellow junior J.P. Perez scored 631.45 points to place ninth one day after clinching his first trip to the NCAA Championships courtesy of a second-place finish on the 3-meter. Freshman Jimmy Page put 583.70 points on the board and placed 16th.
Junior Erin Mertz, who clinched a berth in the NCAA Championships by winning the 1-meter Friday, finished third in the 3-meter with her score of 668.15. Classmate Kara Cook scored 253.15 points off of the highest springboard and placed 20th.
Purdue has three men qualified for their NCAA championship meet in Columbus, Ohio, in two weeks. The Boilermakers have two women in their national championships, which take place in the Boilermaker Aquatic Center next week.
The NCAA Zone C Diving Championships conclude Sunday. Action begins at 11 a.m. ET with the men's platform competition to be immediately followed by the women's platform. Admission is free, and live video and live results can be found at purduesports.com.
