Purdue Finishes Sixth In Puerto Rico

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Sophomore Tyler Duncan posted his third-consecutive round in red numbers with a score of 68 (-4) on Tuesday. Duncan helped lead Purdue men's golf team into a sixth-place finish with a three-round total of 856 (-8) at the Puerto Rico Classic.

Through two rounds the Boilermakers were deadlocked with Northwestern in seventh-place after firing rounds of 286 (-2) and 282 (-6). Purdue recorded an even-par round of 288 to conclude play on Tuesday. The eight-under three-round total left Purdue in a sixth-place tie with Georgia.

No. 9 Texas won the tournament with a score of 822 (-42). The Longhorns beat out the top-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys who finished in second by just six strokes.

Duncan led the Boilermakers and finished in a seventh-place tie individually after carding a final score of 208 (-8). Kevin Tway of Oklahoma State won the tournament with a score of 199 (-17). The top-ranked golfer coming into the tournament, Peter Uihlein of Oklahoma State, finished in a tie for eleventh just one stroke behind Duncan.

Junior Nakarintra Ratanakul carded back-to-back 70s (-2) in the first two rounds but struggled to a 76 (+4) in round three. His even-par score of 216 left him in a tie for 25th. Junior Maximo Kopp recorded his first round under-par of the tournament with a 71 (-1) on Tuesday. The red-figure brought his three-round total to 217 (+1). Coming off a 68 (-4) on Monday, sophomore William Sjaichudin used a 76 (+4) on Tuesday to bring his total to 218 (+2) - good for 39th. Junior Erich Johnston carded a score 221 (+5) to finish in 49th.

Duncan's 68 tied for the best round of his career and was his best score of the 2009-10season by five strokes. His seventh-place finish was also the best of his career - beating out his 32nd-place finish at the Wolverine Radrick Farms earlier this season.
