Purdue Fall Invitational Final Results
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's tennis team completed competition at the Purdue Fall Invitational on Sunday at the Schwartz Tennis Center.
Senior P.J. Rose, who won the Flight A singles title at last weekend's Wildcat Fall Invitational, continued his unbeaten start to the 2009 fall schedule. The Highland, Ill., native earned a 6-3, 6-3 win over Butler's Ben Raynauld to improve to 7-0 in singles play. Fellow senior Branko Kuzmanovic took down sophomore Thomas Wilson 6-4, 6-2 in the other semifinal. Rose and Kuzmanovic were named co-champions of Flight A after the final was not played.
Rose also earned the doubles championship with junior Eric Ramos. Rose and Ramos defeated the Iowa duo of Austen Krauss and Tom Mroziewicz 8-3 in the semifinal before picking up an 8-5 win over Kuzmanovic and junior Paul Foley, who beat Marquette's Otavio Perim and Jonathan Schwerin 8-2 in their semifinal match, in the final.
Freshman Billy Heuer, playing in his first tournament as a Boilermaker, fell 6-3, 6-4 in the consolation semifinal to Butler's Chris Herron. Sophomore Matt Manasse was defeated 6-3, 6-1 by Marquette's Jacob Strauss in the Flight B singles semifinal. Manasse and fellow sophomore Jan-Frans Engelbrecht picked up an 8-3 win over Butler's Stephen McLoughlin and Lenz Theodor to advance to the doubles consolation final, where they fell 8-6 to Reynauld and Bryce Warren.
Engelbrecht and Foley also played one singles match outside of the bracket on Sunday. Engelbrecht earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Butler's Ben Shafer, and Foley was defeated 6-7 (9), 6-1, 1-0 (4) by Warren.
Purdue's next tournament is the ITA Regionals, which is to be held Oct. 22-26 in Bloomington, Ind.
