ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Junior Erich Johnston fired a career-best 68 (-4) on Sunday to lead the Purdue men's golf team to a final-round 290 (+2) and an eighth-place finish at the Wolverine at Radrick Farms.
The Boilermakers' effort on Sunday moved their team total to 873 (+9) for the tournament, marking the 18th-best 54-hole score in program history. Purdue also jumped one spot on the leader board after finishing the first day of play in the ninth position.
Johnston made a move of his own on Sunday, charging a dozen spots up the leader board to finish in a tie for 14th place after opening the day with a share of 26th. His tournament total of 214 (-2), backed by seven final-round birdies on Sunday, also marked a career best.
Sophomore William Sjaichudin wrapped up his season debut with a flourish on Sunday, posting a one-under 71 to match the second-best round of his collegiate career. The third-round effort gave Sjaichudin a total of 217 (+1) for the tournament, good for a share of 17th place.
Sophomore Tyler Duncan carded a two-over 74 on Sunday to move up seven spots and finish in a 32nd-place tie with a total of 222 (+6), while junior Maximo Kopp finished the weekend in a tie for 44th after carding a final-round 77 (+5) and a total of 224 (+8). Junior Nakarintra Ratanakul rounded out the Purdue lineup in a tie for 56th place after shooting 78 (+6) in the third round and 226 (+10) for the weekend.
Sophomore Scott Busch was also in action this weekend at Radrick Farms, finishing in a tie for 71st as an individual after accumulating a total of 232 (+16).
The Boilermakers will continue their fall schedule next weekend when they head to the Windon Memorial Classic, hosted by Northwestern in Glencoe, Ill. Live scoring for the event will be available at golfstat.com.
