COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Purdue men's and women's diving teams got off to an impressive start on Friday at the Ohio State Swimming and Diving Invitational. Freshman David Boudia broke another program record, while fellow rookie Casey Matthews posted a personal best to lead the women.

Boudia came in at 419.85 on the 1-meter springboard, once again breaking one of his own records. He tallied a 358.60 in Friday's prelims, which only had him in third place heading into the finals. The previous record came when the Noblesville, Ind., native scored a 402.45 against Eastern Michigan (Nov. 14, 2008).

"Boudia in the finals performed 5 out of 6 dives nearly perfect to pull out the victory," head diving coach Adam Soldati said. "David Colturi did exactly what I was looking for, as well, which was perform two very consistant list of dives. I was proud of the team after day one."

Colturi finished fifth on 1-meter with a score 348.50. He was actually in second after the prelims, tallying a 360.40, which was good for a season high.

Danny Cox finished 11th with 301.05 points and Kyle Mitrione was 13th with 295.15 points.

Matthews was the top Boilermaker finisher on the women's side, coming in fourth with a score of 320.95 on the 3-meter springboard. She tallied a 304.60 in prelims.

"This will be the most challenging meet of the year before NCAA's and our kids really need this," Soldati said. "Our freshmen once again stepped up with great performances. Casey was outstanding all day!"

Ashley Beal finished 11th with 272.50 points. Emily Wetzel was 13th after scoring 270.75 points. Kara Cook posted a 267.15 to come in 15th.

Day two of the Ohio State Swimming and Diving Invitational begins tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. ET with prelims. Finals are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Live results can be found on purduesports.com.
