Purdue Invitational: Day Three Results

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Boilermaker women's tennis team wrapped up their fall season with the final day of competition at the Purdue Invitational on Sunday. Coach Laura Glitz's crew won seven matches, including all three doubles and a three set marathon.
Michelle Sammons bested Megan Martzolf (Miami) in a nearly three hour contest that gave Purdue their last win of the day. Sammons fought through two tiebreakers before easily taking the last set, winning 7-6, 6-7, 6-2.
"For Michelle's confidence, it was really good that she came through. She really picked it up in the last set," coach Glitz said. "She was really loose and just let it go. She was stayed aggressive and stepped up. It was clutch."
Tatiana Ganzha, Anna Dushkina and Jennifer Rabot all rolled through their singles matches. Ganzha dominated Riekie Honiball (Miami), 6-1, 6-3. Dushkina took out Cara Wild (Miami), 6-4, 6-3. Rabot defeated Brintney Larson (Miami), 6-4, 6-4.
The Boilermakers began the day with three impressive doubles victories. Stephanie Wooten and Sammons combined to take their match over Martzolf and Stephanie Danesis (Miami), 8-5.
Remi Martin and Rabot were also winners, as the freshman duo defeated Wald and Jackie Kolman (Miami), 8-3. Ganzha and Joanna Craven also sailed through their match, getting the win over Larson and Honiball (Miami), 8-2.
"I think this weekend is a pretty good indicator of where we're at. We played some quality competition," coach Glitz said. "I was really pleased with our doubles today. We were really aggressive and our energy was great.
"A lot of our young kids were out there, as well. They all did a great job and stepped up to the plate."
Purdue next competes on January 16, 2009 when they host the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks at the Schwartz Tennis Center. The match is slated to begin at 4 p.m. ET.
