SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The No. 16 Purdue men's swimming and diving teams continued to roll through their 2008 campaign on Saturday, this time taking out the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 187-108. The Boilermakers won 13 of 16 events en route to the victory.
"It's been a really tiring weekend, as far as travel and competition are concerned," head coach Dan Ross said. "Today was a complete victory. Notre Dame is the best team we've faced so far. If we keep getting better, then we'll be in good shape."
Tim Watts, Aaron Koger, Andrew Langenfeld and John Schmitt started things off with a dominating victory in the 400 medley relay. They posted a 3:20.78, almost six seconds ahead of second place.
Schmitt did not need not long to recover, however, as he took the 200 free in 1:39.80 just four events later. He also posted a victory in the 100 free, swimming a 45.58.
Koger posted a pair of other victories, as well, taking home the 100 and 200 breast. He notched a 56.23 in the 100 and a 2:02.64 in the 200.
Watts also won the 100 back in 51.87. Langenfeld tallied a victory in the 100 fly after swimming a 49.14.
The Boilermakers also performed well in the distance events. Sean Davis won the 500 free with a time of 4:38.42 and Matt Stewart rolled in the 1650 free in 15:51.65.
Sam Wilcher posted a victory in the 200 fly after swimming a 1:50.38. Dan Jung won the 50 free in 21.06.
Purdue once again performed well in the diving events, with David Boudia breaking pool records in both 1-meter and 3-meter. He posted a 373.05 in 1-meter and 440.48 in 3-meter for the high marks. Danny Cox finished third in 1-meter with a 333.52 and David Colturi grabbed third in 3-meter with a 328.58.
The No. 16 Boilermaker (3-0) men next hit the pool on Nov. 14-15 when they host the Purdue Challenge. Action starts on Friday at 6 p.m. ET.
