Oct. 5, 2008
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Purdue men's tennis team won all three singles matches they competed in on Sunday at the Ball State Invitational. The three wins gave them three singles brackets titles after a weekend full of tough competition.
"We did a good job with our mental skills this weekend. We kept our composure," head coach Tim Madden said. "Overall, I think that allowed us to win a lot of tiebreakers and singles matches."
Junior Slavko Bijelica won the A Flight consolation bracket with a 7-6 (5), 6-4 victory over Mark Rutherford (Marquette).
Junior Paul Foley took home the B Flight title after coming back to beat Skip Span (Illinois State) 5-7, 7-6 (4), 1-0 (5).
Winning the C Flight was sophomore Matt Manasse. The Boca Raton, Fla. native defeated Mikhael Rasner (Duquesne) 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (7).
The Boilermakers now return home to host the Purdue Fall Invitational on Oct. 11-12 at the Schwartz Tennis Center. Check purduesports.com for more updates.
