Ball State Invitational: Day Two Results

MUNCIE, Ind. - After the second day of competition at the Ball State Invite, the Purdue men's tennis team has advanced three players to singles finals and three teams to doubles finals.
"The hope was that with all of the competition we had this fall, we could start winning matches. Everything has been positive," head coach Tim Madden said. "Matt Manasse, especially, has really improved the level of his game in this tournament. You can see it in his game, which bodes well for his future."
Junior Slavko Bijelica has advanced to the finals of the A Flight consolation bracket. In the quarters, he dominated Landon Neuman (Wright State) 6-0, 6-0. In the semifinals, he gutted out a tough win over Richard Canelas (Xavier) 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (6).
Junior Paul Foley will play in the B Flight finals after edging out Javier Bernabe (Xavier) 7-6, 5-7, 1-0 (5) in the quarterfinals and defeating Vuk Milicevic (Eastern Illinois) 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (4) in the semis.
In the C Flight, sophomore Matt Manasse has continued his stellar play by advancing to the final match. Manasse beat Xavier Riart-Ferrer (Illinois State) 6-3, 6-4 in the quarterfinals and Steve Herchko (Duquesne) 6-4, 6-7 (8), 1-0 (8) in the semis.
In doubles action, Bijeclia and sophomore Eric Ramos advanced to the A Flight finals with a 9-7 quarterfinal win over David Peyton and Michael Rohona and an 8-5 semifinal victory over Mark Rutherford and Jonathon Scherwin (Marquette).
Senior Griff Nienberg and Patrick Rose are in the B Flight finals. The senior duo defeated J.T. Christian and Drake Kakar (Marquette) 8-5 in the quarterfinals and Marc Pretorius and Brian Starr 9-8 (1) in the semis.
Finally, Foley and Manasse advanced to the C Flight finals with an 8-3 quarterfinal victory over Drew Gimaldi and Milicevic (Eastern Illinois) and an 8-4 semifinal win over Canelas and Anthony Palmenter (Xavier).
