WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's tennis team finished up the final day of action at the Purdue Fall Invitational on Sunday with some solid performances. The Boilermakers went 5-1 in doubles play to win both doubles flights and junior Paul Foley won the Singles C Flight.

The tandem of senior Griff Nienberg and freshman Thomas Wilson won the Doubles A Flight by defeating two other doubles teams in two very different fashions. They beat Drake Kakar and Dusan Medan (Marquette) in the semifinals 8-3 and then earned a tough win over Stephen Shao and Mark Rutherford (Marquette) in the finals 9-8 (4).

Sophomore Eric Ramos and senior P.J. Rose went on to defeat Kakar and Medan 8-3 in an A Flight consolation match.

Nienberg and sophomore Matt Manasse cruised in the Doubles B Flight to take that title. In the semifinals, they defeated Tom Mrowziewicz and Patrick Dwyer (Iowa) 8-4. In the finals, the Purdue duo took out Juan Martin Paredes and Niko Boulieries (Marquette) 8-5.

"Our doubles play was very strong and we showed more improvement in our singles. I think that shows that as we go through our fall tournaments, we're gaining experience and confidence," coach Tim Madden said.

"The best example is Paul Foley. He exudes confidence out there in every situation and every point. The team is feeding off his energy. They know he'll get results. I'm very proud of him for getting the job done."

Foley continued his winning ways in singles action, taking home the C Flight title. He earned a hard fought victory over Brandon Bayliss (Butler) 6-4, 2-6, 7-6.

In A Flight action, Ramos got the victory over Bryce Warren (Butler) 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 in the consolation final. Junior Slavko Bijelica also won an A Flight match, beating Chris Herron (Butler) 6-3, 6-4.

Manasse won a C Flight consolation match, beating Stephen McLoughlin (Butler) 7-6, 4-6, 6-2.

The Boilermakers will next compete in the ITA Regional Championships on Oct. 16-20 in Columbus, Ohio. Check purduesports.com for more updates.
