COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Purdue Boilermaker offense pounded the top pitching staff in the Big Ten for 15 hits in a 7-4 win over Ohio State on Friday evening at Bill Davis Stadium.
Ryne White put the Boilermakers on the scoreboard in the first inning with a solo home run and added a second blast later in the game to lead the Purdue Nine at the plate. White was 4-for-4 with three runs and three RBI in the game.
Matt Bischoff led the way for the Purdue Nine on the hill, recording his second win of the season in 5.2 innings of work. Bischoff is the first Boilermaker starter to earn a win since Allan Donato defeated Northwestern on March 29, some 12 games ago.
The Boilermaker bull pen was effective again, with Josh Lindblom pitching a perfect eighth and ninth inning for his eighth save of the season - and the sixth in six opportunities in Big Ten play.
White's first home run opened the Purdue scoring in the first and RBI hits by Wolgamot and White in the fifth made the score 3-0. OSU posted single runs in the fifth and sixth to draw to within one before Purdue tacked on three more runs.
In the seventh Jordan Comadena singled in a run and Dan Black followed with a two-run double to increase the Boilermaker lead to 6-2. Once again the Buckeyes responded to draw closer, scoring twice in the seventh to pull to within two at 6-4. White finished the scoring with his second home run to cap the Boilermaker win.
Every Purdue starter registered at least one hit in the game, led by White's four hits and Brandon Haveman's three. Haveman also scored two runs to increase his team-leading run total to 39.
Purdue and Ohio State return to the diamond at Bill Davis Stadium on Saturday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader. The twinbill is being threatened by a forecast for showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening.
