OXFORD, Ohio - Purdue couldn't make two home runs by Dan Black stand up as the Boilermakers fell to the Miami RedHawks 5-3 in front of 664 Miami faithful at McKie Field at Hayden Park.
Black hit home runs from each side of the plate, towering blasts in the second and the seventh innings.
The second homer by Black knotted the game up at 2-2, but Miami answered immediately with a three-run home run by Jordan Petraitis off releiver Chris Ivanic (2-1). Purdue pushed across a single run in the eighth to pull to within two but could get no closer.
The Boilermakers squandered several chances to score, loading the bases in the third and fourth without scoring a run. On the day Purdue stranded 12 runners on base, eight in scoring position.
Purdue travels back to the State of Ohio this weekend for a four-game series against the Buckeyes of Ohio State. The series begins at Bill Davis Stadium on Friday at 6:35 p.m.
