WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Boilermakers David Colturi and Romain Maire were kept out of the finals of their respective events Friday afternoon at the NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships. This year's meet is taking place at the King County Aquatic Center in suburban Seattle, Wash.
Colturi placed 24th on the 3-meter springboard with 302.10 points and Maire finished 21st in the 400 individual medley with a time of 3:51.09.
A freshman from Sylvania, Ohio, Colturi got off to a slow start, scoring only 43.4 points on his first dive and 36 on his second. He responded with three scores well over 50 points, including a 67.5 point score for executing a reverse 2.5 somersault, but it was not enough to lift him into the top 16.
Georgia's Chris Colwill, last night's 1-meter springboard champion, posted the top prelim score of 432.30 points.
Florida sophomore Clark Burckle was fastest in the 400 individual medley, completing the course in 3:42.82.
Saturday, Colturi will compete on the platform tower and Maire will go in the 200 backstroke.
Purdue remains in 27th place with nine points.
