No. 51 Women's Tennis Falls To No. 63 Virginia Tech 5-2

WEST LAFYETTE, Ind. - Purdue's 51st-ranked women's tennis team (2-5) fell to No. 63 Virginia Tech 5-2 Saturday afternoon at the Schwartz Tennis Center.

The Boilermakers were victorious at No. 2 doubles and at No. 1 and 5 singles. Senior Brooke Beier led the team with two wins.

Beier and Stephanie Wooten combined to win the last five points of their match at No. 2 doubles to beat Inga Beermann and J.J Larson, 8-5. Beermann and Larson had jumped out to a 5-3 lead, but could not hang on.

In singles, back-to-back wins by Anna Dzeva and Brooke Beier tied the dual at 2-2. Dzeva toppled Larson at the No. 5 position, 6-3, 6-4, while Beier held back Beermann at No 1 singles, 6-2, 6-4.

Purdue had a fair shot to win the match, but Virginia Tech's No. 2, 3 and 4 competitors all won their decisive third sets and the Hokies improved to 8-2 this spring.

The Boilermakers are back in action Sunday at noon, playing host to Midwest regional rival DePaul. Free pizza and drinks will be provided by the women's tennis team during the doubles and singles break. Admission is free.
