WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The No. 5 Florida Gators once again nipped the No. 12 Purdue Boilermakers, 106-97, Saturday afternoon in the heart of the Sunshine State.
The established Gators' victory completed a two-day sweep over the up-and-coming Boilermakers. Florida won Friday's session, 137-125.
"This was a marathon meet both days and we really battled hard against the No. 5 team in the nation," said Purdue head coach Dan Ross. "Florida put forth an incredibly strong lineup today, so I'm proud of our guys for hanging in there."
Purdue collected three victories in falling to 4-2 on the season. Sam Wilcher won the 200 butterfly in 1:48.37. John Schmitt took first in the 100 freestyle at 45.25 and Jin-Soo Kim won his second-consecutive 200 breaststroke title in 2:02.46.
Kim won Friday's 200 breast in 2:01.63.
Purdue receivied first-place points in the 400 free relay since the Gators competed as exhibitions. The team of Andrew Langenfeld, Schmitt, Eddie Kenney and John Mullen posted a time of 3:01.95.
The Boilermakers' were beat by a hair in the 200 and 50 free and the 200 individual medley. Schmitt lost the 200 free by .43 seconds while Langenfeld dropped the 50 title by .01 seconds. Maire lost out on the 200 IM crown by .23 seconds.
Purdue returns home to the Boilermaker Aquatic Center next Saturday, Jan. 12 for a 1 p.m. conference dual vs. Michigan State.
