Purdue defeats Northwestern 52-38

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind- Purdue had three players score in double-figures and held ‎Northwestern scoreless in the final 4:12 as the Boilermakers defeated the Wildcats 52-38 ‎on Sunday afternoon.‎

Natasha Bogdanova recorded a double-double leading the Boilermakers with 13 points ‎and 13 rebounds. Ki-Ki Freeman and Danielle Campbell scored 10 and 12 points ‎respectively as Purdue improved to 9-9 overall and 5-2 in the Big Ten while the Wildcats ‎dropped to 4-15 overall and 0-7 in the Big Ten.‎

After allowing the Wildcats to shoot 52 percent in the first half Purdue came out and ‎played swarming defense in the second half. In the second the Boilermakers forced 14 ‎turnovers, came up with eight steals and held Northwestern to 27 percent shooting from ‎the field.‎

The Boilermakers utilized their forced turnovers and second chance points Sunday ‎afternoon as they scored 20 points off of turnovers and had nine second chance points. ‎Purdue controlled the rebounding battle as well as it out-rebounded Northwestern 37-30 ‎overall and 16-3 on the offensive glass.‎

After leading 24-23 at the half, the Boilermakers fell behind 28-24 at the beginning of the ‎second half but went on a 22-8 run in the final 12 minutes to overtake the Wildcats.‎

With the score tied at 32-32 and 11:40 remaining, the Boilermakers got a 16 foot jumper ‎from Freeman to go down and then forced a Northwestern shot clock violation. ‎Following the Wildcat turnover Freeman came up with another basket as she drove to the ‎basket and put in a layup from the left side to put the Boilermakers up 36-32. ‎

Purdue never looked back as it hit 7-of-10 free throws in the last 10 minutes and only ‎allowed three field goals in the final nine to ice the victory.‎

The Boilermakers next play on Wednesday, January 14 when they travel to Iowa in ‎search of their third consecutive victory.‎
