WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue wrestling team dominated the visiting United States Air Force Academy on Friday night, posting an impressive 35-6 victory to improve to 5-2 in dual competition this season. Junior 149-pound tri-captain Jake Patacsil highlighted the night breaking the Boilermakers' career back-point record in his 15th win of the season.

The Old Gold and Black took nine of the 10 matches from the Falcons including a pin, a technical fall and three major decisions in the win. Their point total ties their second highest mark of the season, matching the 35-6 win at Drexel earlier this month. Patacsil etched his name into Purdue history, rolling up 13 back points in his 17-0 technical fall of Air Force's Chris Szabolcs to give him 404 in his career. The total breaks Purdue head coach Scott Hinkel's record of 391, which he set for the Boilermakers from 1984-87.

"It's great to see Jake put his name in the record books," said Hinkel. "He follows a great tradition of Patacsil wrestlers here at Purdue, and will no doubt put this one in a huge place by the time he's done here." Patacsil is the grandson of Purdue's second NCAA wrestling champion in school history (Joe Patacsil in 1950), and the son of two-time NCAA qualifier, Frank Patacsil.

Jake Patacsil also moved himself into a national tie for first place in technical falls with his ninth of the season. He shares the national lead with 2007 NCAA Champion Gregor Gillespie of Edinboro.

Also putting his name in Purdue history and the national spotlight was freshman A.J. Kissel, who recorded his team-best 12th fall of the season at 184 pounds. Kissel stuck Air Force's Jim Ciccone at the 6:24-mark to move into a tie for fifth on the Boilermaker's single-season record board and a tie for seventh in this season's national leaderboard. Kissel is now just three falls shy of Purdue's single-season record.

Purdue's three major decisions on the evening came from sophomore 157-pounder Sam Patacsil, junior 174-pounder Nick Corpe and rookie 197-pounder Logan Brown. Sam Patacsil ran up a 7-0 first-period lead on the Falcons Tony Dorward en route to the 15-6 victory, while Corpe pushed his team-leading takedown count to 60 in a 19-7 win over Duane Miller. Brown picked up his fourth major of the season as he notched a 12-3 win in his rematch with Sterling Tribble.

Purdue senior tri-captain Sean Schmaltz improved his individual mark to 7-5 with a solid 5-3 win over Derek Gillespie at 133 pounds, while freshman 125-pounder Akif Eren and sophomore heavyweight Chris Kasten bookended the match with overtime victories. Eren needed the tie-break session to edge Air Force's Zach Valdez, 5-4, while Kasten secured a takedown in the sudden-victory period to grab a 4-2 win over Anthony Stegeman.

Air Force's lone win of the day came at 141 pounds as Jake Kreigbaum capitalized on a Boilermaker mistake and pinned Purdue sophomore Matt Redmond at the 2:17-mark of the first period. The Falcons drop to 1-4 on the season with the loss.

Purdue wastes no time returning to action, departing tomorrow for Sunday's Wendy's Duals, hosted by Ashland University. There the Boilermakers are set to face the host Eagles, Northern Illinois and Liberty.
