WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The 14th-ranked Boilermaker swimming and diving team seemed to be at home on the road Friday, beating Iowa 173.5-122.5 in their first dual outside the Boilermaker Aquatic Center this season.
Purdue won 10 of 16 events and tied for first in the 100 freestyle as both Boilermaker Eddie Kenney and Iowa's Conor Dwyer touched at 46.78. Kenney also won the 50 free in 21.40.
The Boilermakers' margin of victory was boosted by three four-place sweeps in the 1000 freestyle, 100 and 200 butterfly. Freshman Drew Wolfred won the 1K in 9:36.38; Romain Maire claimed first in the 200 fly at 1:52.22 and Jin-Soo Kim led the Boilermakers in the 100 fly with a 50.19.
Sophomore Aaron Koger was the Boilermakers' leading individual scorer as he swept the breaststroke races for the first time this season. Koger won the 100 in 56.92 and completed the 200 in 2:05.84.
Early on in the meet, Purdue received a win from its 200 medley relay (1:31.89) and later claimed a one-two showing from Sean Davis (4:39.84) and Sam Wilcher (4:41.40) in the 500 free.
Freshman David Colturi was the Boilermakers' lone representative on the springboards. He won the 3-meter title with 321.35 points and was third on 1-meter with 286.50 points.
Dan Ross' Boilermakers return home next weekend for the Purdue Invitational. This three-day, six-session meet features swimmers and divers from Florida, Louisville, Missouri and others.
