WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Freshman Joanna Craven advanced to the first singles championship match of her young collegiate career, posting a 3-1 record in flight "B" at the Wildcat Invitational this past weekend in Evanston, Ill.

Craven won her first two matches in straight sets over opponents from Northwestern and Michigan State before earning a three-set semifinal victory against Mississippi's Laura Van der Stroet, 6-0, 3-6, 6-2.

Craven lost to Minnesota's Tijana Koprivica in the championship match, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

Purdue's rookie from Leeds, Yorkshire, England also fared well in doubles with partner junior Stephanie Wooten. The pair won its first two doubles matches before falling in the "A" semifinal to Northwestern's Alexis Conill and Suzie Matzenauer, 9-7.

Wooten and Craven rebounded to win the doubles consolation title 8-3 over South Carolina's Natasa Vuckovic and Suzanna Mansour.

In singles, Wooten went 2-1 in the "A" flight. The Texan won her first two matches in straight sets before losing to Northwestern's Nazlie Ghazal 6-2, 6-2 in the semifinal.

Next up for Purdue is the ITA Regional Championship, which will take place in Ann Arbor, Michigan from Oct. 18 to 23.
