WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Senior Brooke Beier and the doubles team of Stephanie Wooten and Joanna Craven advanced to the round of 16 of their respective flights at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships.

This year's championships took place on the campus of the University of Michigan and featured over a 100 of the region's top players from a number of Midwest states including Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan.

Wooten and Craven started with an 8-4 win over Marquette's Moore and Watkins before pulling off a minor 8-3 upset over Notre Dame's 12th-seeded combo of Ciobanu and Rafael.

Wooten and Craven were eventually eliminated by Western Michigan's Pahl and Saruta 8-5.

"Steph and Jo played some of their best doubles of the fall this weekend," said head coach Laura Glitz. "They looked real good in beating the ranked team from Notre Dame."

Beier's first match in the main draw against Ohio State's Blackmore lasted approximately three hours and 40 minutes, but the Boilermaker was able to pull through with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 victory.

Beier came back to win five of the last seven points in the second set after being down 2-1.

An hour following her marathon match, Beier jumped back on the court and put away Wodzinski of Toledo in quick fashion 6-1, 6-1.

Beier's run ended Sunday morning with a 6-4, 7-5 loss to Potts of Notre Dame.

"Brooke's just gotten better with each match, but she may have run out of gas today," said Glitz. "She gave a good effort, competed well, and was a few points away from reaching the quarterfinals."

This weekend's tournament marked the end of fall season for most of the Boilermakers; however, Beier and Duru will go on to compete at the Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational in early November.
