WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Boilermakers again played some tough opponents for the second-straight weekend, taking on Notre Dame, Michigan, Marquette and Western Michigan at the Wolverine Invitational.

Purdue mustered nine singles wins, three each collected by junior Stephanie Wooten and freshman Joanna Craven. Both Boilermakers lost their opening-round match in the Maize Draw but rebounded nicely through consolations and additional matches.

Wooten lost a three-set tiebreak to Notre Dame's third-seeded Colleen Rielley, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (5), before defeating Marquette's Rachel Hush, Christina Ruiz and Maria Calebeto in straight sets.

Craven followed a similar path to Wooten in winning three of four singles. The England native lost her opening draw match to Kristen Rafael of the Fighting Irish then beat Hush in straight sets and Western Michigan's Ashley Moccia in a three-set tiebreak.

Craven finished Sunday with a convincing 6-0, 6-1 triumph over UND's Denise Ellison.

"I thought we got some good efforts from Jo and Steph, both played pretty well," said head coach Laura Glitz. "This was a difficult tournament, but this is what the fall season is all about. We have to get a lot of match experience under our belts before we start the spring."

The remaining three singles victories were picked up by Cigdem Duru, Alejandra Boeker and Anna Dzeva.

Duru lost her opening-round match in the Maize Draw, but came back to beat WMU's Noriko Saruta 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (6).

Dzeva and Boeker each won their first-round match in the Blue Draw but did not advance further.

The Boilermakers continue their fall schedule next weekend, traveling to Evanston, Ill., for the three-day Wildcat Invitational.
