IOWA CITY, Ia. - No. 50 Purdue traveled to face the 59th-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes Sunday for their final regular season match. The Boilers fell by a score of 4-3 moving their record to 12-8, 5-5 Big Ten.
The Hawkeyes claimed the doubles point by taking two of the three matches, both with scores of 8-6.
At the No. 1 spot Mallory Voelker and Brooke Beier defeated their Hawkeye counterparts Jacqueline Lee and Mili Veselinovic with a score of 8-3.
Losing their first two singles matches in straight sets didn't phase the Boilers as they fought back starting at the No. 1 spot with Voelker defeated Lee 6-3, 3-6, 6-0. Next was Cigdem Duru at the No. 4 position who claimed victory over Kayla Berry 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Just behind Duru at the No. 5 slot was Anna Dzeva who defeated Merel Beelen 2-6, 6-4, 6-4, to tie up the match at 3-3.
Freshman Neela Vaez battled hard at the No. 3 position by taking Hillary Mintz to a third set. Mintz ended up clinching the match for the Hawkeyes by winning 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
The Boilers are back in action at the Big Ten Championships next weekend in Minneapolis, Minn.
