April 1, 2007

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Boilermakers of Purdue moved to the outdoor courts at the Schwartz Tennis Center today to face the 50th-ranked Broncos of Western Michigan. Purdue ended up falling to the Broncos, 5-2. This loss moves the Boilers to 8-7, 1-3 Big Ten; the Broncos are now 13-7, 2-0 MAC.

The Broncos of Western Michigan captured the doubles point by claiming all three matches. The No. 2 doubles team from Purdue consisting of Eric Hodgman and Kurt Zaske put up a good fight taking the match to a 7-7 tie before falling 9-7 against the team of John Pelton and Brady Crosby.

Singles did not bode well for the Boilers either on Sunday as they fell at No. 2-4 and 6 in straight sets. However, at the No. 5 spot freshman Paul Foley was able to win his match against John Pelton, 7-6(0), 6-2.

At the No. 1 position freshman Branko Kuzmanovic was able to capture another point for the Boilers. Kuzmanovic lost his first set but was able to take back the next to send it to a super-tiebreak. The final score between Kuzmanovic and Crosby was 6-7(4), 6-3, 10-4.

The Boilers are back in action on April 6, against Penn State in University Park, Pa.

Purdue's next home match is on April 21, against the Iowa Hawkeyes. The action starts at noon.
