WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - No. 50 Purdue fought back from an early 1-0 deficit to edge Big Ten Conference rival Wisconsin 4-3 Saturday in Madison. The Boilermakers (10-2 overall, 3-0 Big Ten) have won eight-straight duals since starting the season 2-2.
Purdue won four of six singles after dropping the doubles point. Randi Schuler and Lauren Shumated claimed the Boilermakers' lone doubles win with a close 9-7 triumph over Chelsea Nusslock and Kim Roberts.
The depth of Purdue's singles proved to be a difference maker, as the team collect wins from Neela Vaez at No. 4, Cigdem Duru at No. 5 and Anna Dzeva at No. 6. All three of these players won in straight sets.
The biggest victory, however, belonged to junior Brooke Beier. The East China, Mich., native fought off Kaylan Caitai at No. 2 singles in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.
Purdue continues its conference road swing Sunday with a afternoon match at No. 10 Northwestern. The Boilermakers' and Wildcats' unbeated Big Ten records have them tied for first place.
