WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team tacked on another victory today against the No. 74 Michigan State Spartans with a score of 7-0. The Boilers now have a record of 9-2, 2-0 Big Ten, while the Spartans are 10-4, 0-1 Big Ten.

"It's not easy beating a nationally ranked team 7-0 no matter who it is," said Purdue head coach Mat Iandolo. "We've struggled with this team in years past, but we've always been able to beat them."

The Boilers captured the doubles point today by winning two of the three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles the team of sophomore Mallory Voelker and junior Brooke Beier cruised to an 8-1 victory over their Spartan opponents Christine Bader and Stephanie Kebler. The No. 2 doubles team of junior Cigdem Duru and freshman Neela Vaez clinched the doubles point with a 9-7 win over the MSU team of Ana Milosavljevic and Pascale Schnitzer.

Sophomore Randi Schuler breezed through her match at No. 3 singles by beating her Spartan counterpart 6-1, 6-0 to get the first singles point for the Boilers. Following Schuler very closely was Vaez at the No. 4 spot who won her match over Sarah Andrews 6-0, 6-1 just minutes later.

Duru also came out with a strong performance in singles with a score of 6-4, 6-0 against Ana Milosavljevic in No. 5 singles. In No. 1 singles Voelker dropped her opponent in straight sets as well with a score of 6-2, 6-4 over Christine Bader. At the No. 2 spot Beier also won over Stephanie Kebler, 6-4, 6-1. Rounding out the match at the No. 6 spot was Anna Dzeva who defeated Marianne Eelens 7-5, 6-2.

"Our singles players really took it to them at the first four positions," said Iandolo. "We have a lot of firepower from No.1-4, and I don't know too many teams who are better than us at those spots."

Purdue hits the road next weekend for matches against Wisconsin, Northwestern, and Notre Dame. The Boilers return home on April 7 for an 11 a.m. match with Michigan.
