BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Purdue Boilermakers' offense came to life on Friday against Western Kentucky as the Purdue Nine knocked around 18 hits in a 10-6 win over the Hilltoppers in the first game of a three-game series.

Spencer Ingaldson led the Boilermakers with a 5-for-5 day at the plate, including three doubles, as Purdue picked up it's second win of the season. The Boilermakers improved to 2-2 while WKU fell to 5-2.

Of Purdue's 18 hits, 10 went for extra bases. The Boilermakers drove out seven doubles, one triple and two home runs.

Josh Lindblom pitched seven innings in his second start as a Boilermaker, striking out seven to picked up the win. Andrew Groves struck out the final two batters of the game to pick up his first save of the 2007 campaign.

Leading 3-2 going to the fourth inning, Purdue blew the game open with a five-run inning highlighted by a two-run double by Ingaldson and a solo home run by Andy Preston. Kyle Reesing's sacrifice bunt scored Jon Moore from third to make the score 4-2 before Ingaldson's two-bagger plated two. One batter later a passed ball allowed Ingaldson to score from third to make the score 7-2. Preston then connected on an opposite-field homer, slipping the baseball just inside the left field foul pole for his first home run.

Jordan Comadena hit Purdue's other home run, a solo shot to lead off the third inning.

Purdue pushed across two more runs in the sixth on RBI doubles by Comadena and Preston.

WKU rallied in the late innings, scoring a run in the seventh, one in the eighth and two in th ninth before Groves took the mound and closed the game.

Ingaldson's five-hit performance tied the Purdue record for hits in a game, a record accomplished 10 other times dating back to the 1992 season. Single-game records for the Boilermakers are not available prior to the 1992 season.

Joining Ingaldson with multi-hit outtings at the plate were Comadena (3-for-4), Preston (2-for-4), Moore (3-for-5) and Alex Jaffee (2-for-5).

The Boilermakers and Hilltoppers return to Nick Denes Field on Saturday, March 3, for the second game of the weekend series. The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Eastern and will be broadcast over the internet at purduesports.com.
